Camp Wadsworth / Harlem Hellfighters - Makenzi McNair
The Harlem Hellfighter are some of the bravest, most courageous, and most resilient soldiers you will ever hear about. Most people call them the Harlem Hellfighters however, they are originally called 369th Infantry Regiment. The regiment wasn't your typical regiment with just all-white soldiers. This one was special because it was the first African American Regiment. Through all the racism they had thrown at them through preparing for the war. They persevered through combat even with all of the things coming their way becoming the best unit to study foot combat.
Camp Wadsworth is located in Spartanburg, SC. From 1917-1919 Camp Wadsworth was a World War I training facility for the army. Although the Regiment faced lots of racism from the communities and other units, the regiment remained humble. Some of the incidents they faced in Camp Wadsworth and the Spartanburg area were not being able to go into shops to buy a newspaper, and not being able to go anywhere without being judged. Although the memories at Camp Wadsworth aren't the best for the 369th Regiment. This camp shaped them into becoming a unit that everyone studies and knows today. So thank you Camp Wadsworth for giving the 369th Regiment the courage and power they needed.
